Seed Beads: How to Measure Them and More

I have been intending writing a bit about beads, especially seed beads, for a while now. This post is made up of two parts:

ü How you measure seed beads?

ü What are the different and famous seed beads available to us?

How you measure seed beads?

As many jewellery makers know, seed beads are measured by a /0 number system. The seed beads are placed in a straight line at first. And then the number of beads that fit comfortably within 1 inch is counted. If suppose 12 beads come within the space of 1 inch, then the beads are measured as 12/0.

What are the different and famous seed beads available to us?

I have been making bead jewellery for quite sometime now. Earlier I had to buy beads from shops and stores from near and far, and I had little option to choose from. But now with quite a few good web sites providing seed beads I can lay my hands on famous Japanese seed beads and also Czech seed beads. They are easy to work with and also quite beautiful to look at.

My Purse of Seed Beads

Although I love making jewellery and I have pursued this hobby from a long time now, but I was bored of making necklaces and bracelets all the time. Now I wanted to go ahead and make something more challenging. While out shopping in a big women's store the other day, I came across a small purse that was made of seed beads and it really triggered my imagination.

I came back home and logged on to my favourite site www.e-beads.co.uk and ordered for some Czech beads and some Japanese Toho beads. When I received my parcel, I immediately started working on the purse. With a little design in mind, I began. At first it was difficult to work on seed beads, they were too tiny to deal with. Well, that made the work more challenging and all the more fun. After a while, I got used to working with seed beads and in no time it was kind of smooth for me.

Now I have a beautiful blue purse all made up of beads and the best part is the feeling that I made it. Now my friends are also interested and want me to make one for them too.

Seed Beads and A Friend in Need – Are My Best Friends Indeed

Just one day before my show, I found out that the black dress that I chose to wear had got damaged and I was flabbergasted and immensely disappointed. I had set everything – all my accessories and shoes accordingly but now all the preparation had got messed up. Then my friend came to my rescue. She gave me her red evening gown which I must admit was prettier than my black one. But there was one problem, I did not have any accessories with it.

I quickly ordered for some red coloured seed beads along with red semi precious gem beads jasper wedge and with the help of some of the ex-beading accessories easily available in my favourite beads site, quickly stringed through the beads in a proper order. Then with the help of clasps and pliers, gave it a finishing touch and made a pretty necklace that was quite stylish for my performance. It made me feel great and gave me the self confidence that impossible is nothing!
